Ever since I was a little boy, I loved motorcycles and always said my first vehicle would be a Yamaha R1. Almost every toy that I had at the age was either a motorcycle, or another toy that came with one. My parents always thought it was just some stage I was going through and I would someday get over them and choose a car. That, however, wasn’t the case until much later. Even when I was 16 years old, I would beg my dad to let me get my Yamaha R1 and he would try to convince me that motorcycles are dangerous. I never listened to him and I would continue to bug them about it. When it was time for me to get my license, my dad told me to choose a car that I wanted and not a motorcycle. We had a small conversation and he told me that if I crash in a motorcycle, I have more chances of dying then if I would’ve crashed in a car. While doing so, he started showing me videos of motorcycle accidents on YouTube and everybody that was involved in the accidents either died, or ended up hospitalized for a long time. I finally realized he was right and ended up actually getting a car. That car was a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta, but then I later sold that and got a 2005 Honda Civic. Even though a motorcycle isn’t my number one vehicle anymore, I still like them but my new dream car is either a 2003 Ford Mustang Cobra, or a 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca. Since they’re actually cars and not a motorcycle, my parents no longer have to worry about me being in the type of danger that I would’ve been in with the Yamaha R1.

  1. Motorcycles do seem very dangerous but riding one is actually really fun. My friend drives one and every now and then takes me on a ride. It is really fun and really scary at the same time.

  2. That is true, chances of death are much higher on a motorcycle than in a car. I have a friend who bought a motorcycle right out of HS. On his way to school an old lady ran a red light and hit him on the side the way the accident happened, he was lucky to be alive. He broke his left femur and now has to have surgeries on his knee so they can instal a metal rod though there every couple years for the rest of his life. So good choice on switching over to cars.

  3. I have grown up around motorcycles my whole life. My family rides Harley's. I have lost many friends and family members too early in life because of motorcycle accidents. I won't even get on a street motorcycle anymore. I am extremely happy you listened to your parents. Do what I did and get a dirtbike, you dont have to worry so much about bad drivers killing you.

  4. That's smart. My brother and dad were both in motor cycle accidents.

  6. I love motorcycles. I think motorcycles are exciting to ride because of that adrenaline rush you get when you ride one. I have only rode one not drive one but I personally would not own one.

  7. I think its nice to have a dad that is trying to look out for your safey first. You should probably get a motorcycle when you are a little older though.

  8. I dont think motorcycles are safe nor cars but i rather have a car then a motorcycle because there's a bigger chance of getting more hurt or die in a motorcycle then on a car

  9. I didn't grow up around motorcycles, probably due to my mother despising them so much.

  10. Motorcycles in my opinion are really attractive. The design is so amazing but actually riding or imagining anyone I care for riding it scares me.

  12. Motorcycles are cool to have but dangerous to ride. Many things can go wrong while ridding one; you're not as safe as you would be if you were inside a car.

  13. Giovanni, now that was a great choice on avoiding the motorcycle idea. You know how the saying goes; it’s not if you crash on a motorcycle, it’s when and how bad you’re going to crash! Good luck on your $50,000, 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 / Boss 302 Laguna Seca “dream car” in the future, you deserve it for staying away from those motorcycles.
